Lost Aliens – Lovis Trummer

Photography Exhibition

lostaliens

Berlin-based photographer Lovis Trummer takes you on an atmospheric journey through forgotten places. Lose yourself in her work, that focuses on the strikingly displaced, a world in which the borders of pleasing aesthetics shift and blur. This photo spread is about the friction between beauty and deterioration, about disruption and distortion.

It shows the ferocity of getting lost and takes a free perspective towards fashion photography. It is not about the beauty of comfort and symmetry, but about the creases in dresses and cracks in walls, and the brazen defiance on the faces of those who stand against smooth superficiality.

Tidewater

November 2016

Tidewater brings the work of visual artists Memo Vithana and Nico Miyakawa to Berlin, at the heart of Europe’s art scene.

Tidewater is a selection of works about the exploration of current cultures and lifestyles. The pieces will be displayed to visually entertain and mentally involve the viewer; to stimulate thinking, reflection and discussion.

Nico’s works – a series of doodle-style drawings – are a visual journal depicting his personal growth and development. Inspired by experiences and feelings – some his own, some of others – Nico places all the elements of a story in a busy composition of minimal line-drawings. In his works there is a recurring exploration of the relationship between past, present and future.

Memo’s work encompasses different styles, due to his belief that experimenting with new methods and mediums allows one to explore the plains of one´s imagination more deeply. this art offers an escape and a world in which he can vent his emotions and challenge his perception of reality. Most of this artworks have a subtle reflection on today´s society and seek to implement a “voice” for those most silenced in our world with the goal of having them echo on the streets, the screen or the gallery walls.

Shell Shock

Julie Beirens (*1994) is a Belgian photographer and writer. She was born in Bruges and raised on a nearby farm. At only ten years old, she decided to become a photographer. Her four-year-old brother was forced to be a model, but he didn’t like that. She also wanted to be an astronaut, but fear of heights put an end to that dream.

At age of eighteen, she reached third place in the preliminary round of the ‘Kunstbende’, a renowned Belgian art contest for young people. At age of nineteen she reached a second place as well as winning several poetry contests. Her first exhibition was held in 2015 and was entitled ‘Imagine’. This was an exhibition of drawings about war and peace. She exhibited “Imagine” four times.

Her latest work, “Shell Shock” is about people of all shapes and sizes, particularly concentrating on psychological well-being and the effects of trauma.

For our 2nd Week Opening we host a special performance:

Sein und Zeit. Roberto Equisoain (El Eki). Installation of book-objects.

Sein und Zeit is the edition of Martin Heidegger’s book in the format of an object. The procedure consists of selecting a concrete object and a particular book for interaction. In this case the selected items are a clothesline and Heidegger’s Sein und Zeit, and the intervention consists in sticking the label of the book (with barcode, info, price, etc.) in the clothesline.

In this approach between book and object the proposal is to transfer and confuse the cualities of both elements. To create a metaphor. To facilitate a reading without words. To sharpen the gaze upon the clothesline, so that it goes beyond its everyday and functional use and forces it to speak about Heidegger’s text.

The density and thickness of heideggerian terms, which refer above all to themselves in a labyrinth of self-references, are maybe better grasped with the lateral, twisted approach the clothesline suggests than with a usual reading. And, lastly, in this encounter between the clothesline and Sein und Zeit there is space not so much for interpretations of the text in itself, but rather for a crystallization of prejudicies, founded or unfounded notions, and the different experiences of the reader with the book, wether he has read it or not.

……..

___________________________________________________

For our 3rd Week Opening we host a special AV performance:

Eclipse II.III, AV Performance
Audio by Gnosick
Visual by Geso

Geso and Gnosick are twin souls, each one has his own universe, like parallel universes fascinated by nature, geometry, rituals and the unworldly. They came to life at the same time and place and also with the same mission. They both express their view through art, different ways, similar paths where they encounter each other from time to time. In those encounters both universes tune in the same vibration and a new piece is born, for a little while (between thirty and sixty minutes) others can observe this phenomenon. Like an eclipse: the moon, the sun and us (you) there, witnessing that magic encounter.

Gnosick is Javier Iglesias Algora (Madrid, 1977), artist, writer and musician, currently living and working in Madrid. His visual Art Work is included in this 3rd week show.
Geso is Pablo Iglesias Algora (Madrid, 1977), visual artist and performer, currently living and working in Berlin.
Eclipse II.III is an audio-visual live performance that uses sound as trigger for the visual encounter of spheres (planets / satellites) and their projections on each other, creating geometric, harmonic and synesthetic unique moments.

Eclipse II.III, AV Performance
Audio by Gnosick
Visual by Geso
